You Can Stay at This Historic Nantucket Home for One Weekend Only

Nantucket's Thomas Macy House at 99 Main Street

It’s not often that the Nantucket Historical Association grants private access to its properties—let alone an entire stay. But now, during the association’s Holiday Online Auction, it’s offering a two-night stay for two guests at one of the island’s most historic and prized architectural gems: the Thomas Macy House at 99 Main Street.

Built in 1800 by whaling merchant Thomas Macy and neighboring the famous Three Bricks (the trio of uniform brick homes that whaling merchant Joseph Starbuck built for his sons in the early 19th century), this storied Federal-style mansion represents Nantucket during one of the most prosperous periods of whaling, a trade that would define the island for centuries. Macy himself was one of the early founders of Nantucket’s whaling industry, and this home served as his family residence.

Carefully restored with reverence for its history, the Thomas Macy House retains historic touches such as wide-plank hardwood floors and intricate wainscoting, while its rooms are furnished with plush linens, fine art, and period pieces, creating an atmosphere that transports visitors back in time while embracing modern comfort.

The dates for the auction item are from Friday, December 6 through Sunday, December 8, over the 50th Annual Nantucket Christmas Stroll. Beyond the stay, the package includes a private guided tour of the property, two round-trip Hy-Line tickets, and two tickets to the Whaling Museum’s annual Festival of Trees event.

The 9-lot auction also includes the chance for an evening of theatre and cocktails with The Perfect Couple author Elin Hilderbrand, a private tour of the Whaling Museum’s Tony Sarg exhibit, and more. Bidding closes November 15 at 3PM with proceeds from the sale benefiting the association’s outreach and community initiatives.
